Dear School Community,
I am writing to you about the Department of Education Regulations regarding cell phones and other electronic devices in the school setting.
We are very aware of parent concerns about the environmental dangers that our students are faced with every day and we continue to be diligent in providing a safe and secure learning space for all of them. However, the use of cell phones during the school day presents a disturbance to student focus and the learning environment. Therefore, although these devices are now allowed to be brought to school, they are not allowed to be used during the instructional day. Therefore, consider this formal notification that:
If a student makes their electronic device visible or audible, it will be confiscated.
If a student cell phone rings in school, the phone will be confiscated.
If a student’s electronic device is lost, stolen or damaged while at school, the school is not responsible for its replacement of repair.
Cell phones or other electronic devices will not be given back to the student. They must be requested in person by the parent of the student. Repetition of unauthorized cell phone use may result in further more serious disciplinary action. Please see the Citywide Standards of Intervention and disciplinary measures which outline the infractions associated with unauthorized electronic usage.
