Chess New York State Championship
Dear Community,
We want to congratulate two of our students - Nora Brown & Nina Webster - for representing PS 171's Chess in the Schools at the 57th annual New York State Championships. Nora Brown earned fourth place in the State Championships, competing against hundreds of other students.
Black History Month Laser Show
Dear Community,
Before the Mid-Winter recess our students in grades 3-8 had the opportunity to attend a Black History Month Laser Show in our auditorium. This unique show provided students with the opportunity to explore black history by showcasing the important contributions of Black Americans to our country. We explored important black trailblazers and important events in black history to the tune of music from black artists throughout history.

PHP Respect for All Magician
Dear community,
Our guest, Dave The Magician, shared five effective and safe strategies for handling bullying, both in and outside of school. He delivered a powerful message of kindness and respect, leaving a lasting impact on our students.
PHP All-State Festival Chorus
Dear Community,
Six of our students had the awesome honor of participating in the NYC Jr. Area All-State Festival Chorus over the weekend with some of the most talented 6, 7 & 8th graders in all five boroughs. There were other studios like concert band, modern band, orchestra and jazz band, too. It was a great weekend and these kids are amazing for taking the extra time to learn their music.

PHP Lunar New Year
Dear Community,
We celebrated the Lunar New Year by passing out red envelopes that symbolize good luck, while also giving students the chance to try bao.
