New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA)
Dear Community,
We have a message from our wonderful music teacher, Mr. Durant. We want to congratulate our students taking part in NYSSMA (New York State School Music Association). The below participants just completed their NYSSMA Festival at Talent Unlimited High School on March 21 this year.

For four months, students in grades 6-8 work on a solo song and sight-reading (which we do in class), preparing it for adjudication by a New York State music teacher. The judge writes criticisms and advice to improve for our young singers.
So now what?
- 6th graders have had a chance to work at something and see it through. Success.
- 7th graders will use that same song for their upcoming auditions for the Middle School Arts Bootcamp and high school auditions in the Fall. Double Success.
- 8th graders are just honing their skills since many are going to a school like Talent Unlimited, Repertory Company, Special Music School or LaGuardia High School.
